La Salle is an international institution which specializes in the areas of science, culture and education. It was founded in France in 1685. At present, La Salle has over 1,600 educational centres in 82 countries spread all over the world. 73 of these centres are universities. Over one million students study with us and we have a teaching staff of almost 75,000.
Over the past three centuries, the works of La Salle have spread rapidly throughout every continent as a pioneering body providing solutions for the needs of each country. The sole objective of La Salle has always been to provide up-to-date and consistent education in all sectors. It has remained deeply committed to this objective throughout its history in the five continents of the globe.
La Salle has two university campuses: in Barcelona and Madrid. Two centres at the forefront of university education, where the professional and teaching worlds come together as La Salle provides a practical and innovative training which integrates the latest course material and teaching methodology and advanced technology in business innovation into its programs.
Barcelona Campus
The first university studies at the La Salle Barcelona Campus date back to 1903 when the specialities of Electrical, Mechanical and Chemical Engineering were introduced.
Even back then, La Salle had gained the reputation as a pioneering School which served the interests of the Catalan industries of the era.
1964-65: The first group of 25 students specialising in Electronic Equipment took their exams in the Official School of Madrid. At this point, La Salle was the first and only Catalan university to offer courses in Telecommunications.
May 12, 1970: The Ministry of Education and Science officially accredited the course of Telecommunication Technical Engineering Degree and Radio-Electronic Engineering.
1976: La Salle was inscribed in the Polytechnic University of Catalonia.
June 18, 1979: La Salle was granted ministerial authorisation to teach the Sound and Image degree.
1984-85: The La Salle Masters Program began with the La Salle MBA International. This was the result of our lengthy experience of La Salle in the USA, derived from a strong presence in the most prestigious American business schools and the pooling together of several individual business-related experiences of members of the teaching board. The close contact we share with American Business Schools has been a factor which has traditionally set our programs apart from others: the internationalization and globalisation of the course syllabus, teaching staff and students.
May 10, 1991: The Ramón Llull University, of which La Salle is a joint founding member along with the Sarriá Chemical Institute, the Blanquerna Foundation, the Faculty de Philosophy of Catalonia and the IQS Faculty of Economics, was officially approved by the Catalonian Parliament (See legislation DOGC 22/05/91). According to this legislation, La Salle constituted two of the schools of the aforementioned university: the l'Escola Universitària d'Enginyeria Tècnica de Telecomunicació (The La Salle University of Telecommunication Engineering which offered Ordinary Degree Courses) and the new Escola d'Enginyeria Tècnica Superior d'Enginyeria Electrònica i Informàtica (La Salle University of Electronic and Software Engineering offering both Ordinary and Honours Degree Courses).
1994-95: The Master in Information Technology Management began. This course has become one of the key training programs for executives at the head of the ICT Systems and Companies in Catalonia.
1996-97: La Salle demonstrated its pioneering nature with the creation of the Degree in Multimedia Engineering, both Ordinary and Honours courses. This was the first course of its kind in Catalonia, Spain and Europe.
January 30, 1997: The Academic Board of the Ramon Llull University approved the creation of the l'Escola d'Arquitectura La Salle (the La Salle School of Architecture).
1997-1998: In a response to training needs of Catalan companies and as a result of the internationalisation of the Business and Information Technology Area, La Salle launched its Postgraduate Training Program aimed at working professionals. New course programs related to the specialist areas were developed: Management, Engineering and Architecture.
1999-2000: The Honours course in Telecommunication Engineering began.
2000: The first stone was laid of the emblematic construction which was to become the La Salle Business and Technology Innovation Park, and which would incorporate the Business Creation Area.
2001-2002: E-learning teaching methodology, developed here at La Salle, was incorporated into "Enginyeria i Arquitectura La Salle" as the university opted for blended courses combining on-line with conventional lecture-based learning. The La Salle Scholarship Program was created for the traditional lecture-based and on-line Masters courses for both national and international students.
2002-2003: The international BBA courses, taught in English and based on the lengthy experience of the past two decades of the MBA and more recent Executive MBA programs, were started. The creation of these courses will no doubt result in more exchanges with other La Salle universities as well as an increase in the number of foreign students coming here.
2004-2005: La Salle signed an agreement with the CIDET Postgraduate School to open the teaching centre of Manresa, as part of the Barcelona Campus. The La Salle Executive MBA is taught at this centre.

Usability Laboratory
The 100m2 "User Lab" located on university premises was created in 2003. This is the first laboratory of its kind in Spain. In this area, domestic and working environments are reproduced, enabling us to carry out research studies on the reaction and behaviour of users when they come into contact with the product being tested.
BCN Digital: The House Automation Laboratory
The aim of this 100m2 House Laboratory, opened in 2005 and located within the La Salle Innovation Park, is to create an area to provide information about building technologies and their applications. It also serves as a centre for the testing and study of many of the business products of the sector.
This initiative, part of the Brasilia project, is coordinated by the area of La Salle Technological Innovation in Construction.
