Internship Process
1) What qualifies as an internship?
It needs to be a minimum of 120 hours.
It would preferably be with an outside company, but we have some projects here at La Salle which could qualify as internships.
It could be paid or unpaid. If it is paid, there is a minimum salary of 6 euros per hour. We also may have some possible future opportunities with NGO's here in Barcelona if you're interested.
If you have already worked for a company and think this work could qualify as an internship, details on the procedure to follow are described below.
All communication will use your La Salle email address, so it is critical that you check this at least daily!
You will need to be very proactive in this process. For third year students who do not finish the internship by the end of the academic year, you will need to pay for the course in the following year.
Also, please realize that while the minimum amount of time to qualify for an internship is 120 hours, many companies require a longer period of time. Therefore, it is important to decide you can work mornings or afternoons for at least a full semester.
If you plan to do an internship in the summer you may, but please realize that La Salle cannot guarantee the availability of summer internships. In order to avoid problems the best option would be to register for the course in the semester after you complete a summer internship.
How do you start? It depends on your situation. Some people have already worked for a company and would like to have this work qualify as an internship. Others are looking for an internship. If you have already worked for a company, you must do the following:
2. Convalidation Process:
This is the process to follow if youve already worked for a company and would like that work to be evaluated as an internship.
First, prepare the Internship Justification. This is an essay that should be between 3 and 5 pages, and describes the conditions of the internship. This form should be submitted to Paul Fox by email: pfox@salle.url.edu . Work experience for less than the minimum 120 hours, or which has not given the student sufficient insight into the areas described on the form will not be accepted.
Once youve received confirmation that the work experience qualifies as an internship, you must contact Ermelinda Sanchez in the Borsa de Treball ( borsa@salle.url.edu ), who will contact your company supervisor and send them the Company Tutor Questionnaire.
Send an email to Ermelinda with the subject Convalidación Practicas Externas and the following information:
1. Asignatura a convalidar: 90125 Internship Tutor Paul Fox
2. Descripción de la tarea desarrollada: description of the internship
3. Horas totales de dedicación: Total internship hours.
4. Datos de la empresa donde desarrollas la actividad: company name, company tutor name, phone number, email address.
5. Sus datos de contacto (teléfono y email): your telephone and email
Finally, you must fill out the Student Questionnaire and send this to Ermelinda ( borsa@salle.url.edu ) and to Paul Fox (pfox@salle.url.edu)
Your grade will be determined 80% from the Company Tutor Questionnaire, and 20% from the professor'sevaluation of the Internship Justification and the Student Questionnaire.
3. Process for students who have not done an internship previously:
First, youll meet with Paul Fox with a copy of your CV in order to discuss your interests and any concerns you have about the internship process.
The next step is to send an email to Ermelinda Sanchez (borsa@salle.url.edu) in the Borsa de Treball, La Salle's job placement service. They'll arrange for you to come in for an interview, so you can explain your background and interests and they'll see if they have an opportunity that's a good match for you. After that you'll have access to an online database where you can search for the latest opportunities. They'll also send you a weekly email to keep you updated.
If you already know of a company where you might want to work, the Borsa de Treball would still have to create an agreement with the company in order for the work to qualify as an internship.
When you finish the internship, you must contact Ermelinda Sanchez in the Borsa de Treball ( borsa@salle.url.edu ), who will contact your company supervisor and send them the Company Tutor Questionnaire.
