This course provides the students with practical skills, tools and techniques, the learning experience allowing them to execute, control and monitor a real life projects.
At the conclusion of the course, the students will be able to put into execution the project development plan, to execute the related tasks, monitor and control the project in order to meet the stakeholders expectations.
Students work together in groups over a fifteen-week period to execute the project plan. Students are encouraged to interact and communicate with all stakeholders under the supervision and the facilitation of their professor. The students will have the chance to immediately transform the learned principles and techniques into real life experience and reflect on it.
Projects are critical to the success of any organization. They are the activities that result in new or changed products, services, environments, processes and organizations.
Projects increase sales, improve customer satisfaction, reduce costs, improve the work environment, and result in other benefits.
Project management is a discipline. It applies principles, concepts, tools and techniques to improve project performance and organizational effectiveness. Project management adds value by improving the probability of consistently successful projects.
Project management addresses the full range of activities from the beginning to the end of a project Project management addresses "technical or hard" skills like scheduling, cost estimating, and statistical risk management and encompasses complex disciplines such as scope (product) definition, procurement management, human resource management and communications. |

Developing a realistic schedule and cost estimate
Using the baseline and additional tools and techniques to effectively control project performance
Planning for project quality
Using the tools and tactics to measure and monitor organizational and individual project quality
Planning for risk
Planning procurement
Directing and managing the project execution
Closing the project
Complying with the professional code of conduct |

The concepts and techniques included in this course are compliance with the standards of the Project Management Institute (PMI): A Guide of the Principles of Project Management (PMBOK), The Standard for Program Management and The Standard for Project Portfolio Management.
This course will address practical processes and tools that are being used to help organizations implementing their projects.
The students will choose their real life project and by forming a project team, the students will apply the learned concepts and techniques to develop and execute their project. The students will have the immediate opportunity to practise their learned skills, by working within a team and being mentored. |

REQUIREMENTS, EXPECTATIONS, AND ASSESSMENT
PUNCTUALITY (respect for your time and that of others!) and active PARTICIPATION (of highest quality and building on the comments of your classmates) are two essential requirements for this course.
Your final grade consists of three parts:
Your active participation within your project team through consistent attendance and contribution (20%)
Project charter document (60%)
The final presentation of your project (20%)
Retake:
The retake will be to re-submit the Project Development plan and lessons learned (same evaluation rules) and the do the final presentation
To successfully complete the course, you must have made the minimum required grade.
Below are the evaluation criteria for each part:
1. Class Participation: Come to class ON TIME, PREPARED to take part in the discussions and other activities. You will be assessed on the QUALITY of your comments and your ability to CONNECT with and build upon the comments made by your colleagues. Your presence is mandatory on the practical days(Wednesdays)
2. Progress achieved during the project execution.
a. Status report: Reporting the progress of the project every week is mandatory. You are expected to send the status report every Friday before 15:00 by e-mail to alecollen@salle.url.edu
b. Lessons Learned: is a document relating positive and negative aspects of the project. What went good, or bad what are the corrective actions
3. Final Presentation: The presentation should be done in Informative message about the whole project and experience |
